Urticaria

Urticaria, commonly known as hives, is a skin condition characterized by the sudden appearance of raised, red, and itchy welts (wheals) on the skin. These welts can vary in size and shape and often appear and disappear rapidly. Urticaria can be acute (lasting less than six weeks) or chronic (lasting more than six weeks). Here are key points about urticaria:

Symptoms:

  1. Raised Wheals: Red or pink welts that are elevated from the surrounding skin.
  2. Itching: The welts are often accompanied by intense itching.
  3. Variable Sizes: Wheals can range in size from small spots to large, interconnected patches.
  4. Transient: The welts typically appear suddenly and may change shape or disappear within hours.
